The author of The Little Office of the Immaculate Conception is unknown but it is said that during the 15th century Alphonsus Rodriguez, a Jesuit lay brother and doorman at the College of Majorca, was instructed by the Blessed Virgin herself to hand-copy these prayers and distribute them to the attending students.
